Fishing Report
June 5, 2025
Rivers throughout the Gunnison Valley have increased flows and are a bit off color. We have had some decent rain storms which has accelerated run off and brought more debris and color to the rivers.
Gunnison River
The Gunnison River has a “tea” color to it and contains some debris from recent storms and runoff. Flows increased yesterday but I expect it to drop today. Fish are still sitting in large runs and riffles but with a midday baetis hatch, they are starting to move into the tops of runs instead of the tailouts. nymphing will still be the most consistent way to fish right now with some occasional streamer action.
The worm is a staple on my rigs right now with a mix of stones, baetis and midges for my second fly. When the baetis start to hatch I tend to tweak my rig a bit more and dial in the small bug.
Stonefly nymphs, Egg patterns, worm patterns. Pheasant tail (14-18), Radiation Baetis (16-20).
Taylor River
The Taylor River will be the clearest section of river right now because it is dam controlled. Spring creek and Lotus creek are bringing in a little color to the Taylor but it should still fish well. Focus on pocket water and seems along the bank and deep water.
Hopper dropper with larger stones, caddis and baetis nymphs.
