Fishing Report
September 16th, 2024
Fall is here and so are the crowds! Avoid weekend fishing if possible. Night time lows in the 30’s and daytime highs in the 70’s. The fish should start to feed pretty hard with Winter creeping in. This next week will provide some cooler daytime temps and some moisture along with the cool air. We are seeing decent hatches of Baetis in the middle of the day along with lots of midges.
Gunnison River
The Gunny is only fishing as good as the angler right now. It’s September and fishing is technical. These fish have seen lot’s of flies and boats by now. Fish where people aren’t! Focus on fast runs and deep holes. Technical dry dropper rig has been successful on the banks and the shelves. Depending on the day they tend to eat the hopper pretty well too. When I say technical I mean technical. You can force the dries if you know how. Some Salmon have been spotted in the river and that can force the trout out of their normal feeding lanes. It may take a moment for them to get back to normal behavior.
Chubby Chernobyl Golden (12-14), Parachute Adams (18-20), Radiation Baetis (18-20), Juju baetis in black, red and olive (18-22), Brown or tan worm (12-16), Two bit hooker in red or brown (18-20).

Low but fishable. You may run into some salmon if you’re into that sort of thing.
