Work On Your Cast At Home
Thanks to Gink and Gasoline, there is an easy and inexpensive way to improve your cast from the comfort of your home. Check out the link here
Here’s How I made it:
Materials
Two foot section of 1” PVC pipe
Nylon rope cut to length
Two tea cup hooks
A broken fly rod that was not replaceable (There are other creative options for this)
Some duct tape
Process
After watching the video, it seems self explanatory on how to set up this rig, not quite. I did some thinking, surprising I know, but I managed, and I came up with this solution.
Take your PVC pipe and drill a hole in the middle that is sized to the rope that you with be using.
You will then feed some rope through the hole out out one of the ends so you can tie a basic overhand knot in it. Now pull the rope from the outside so the knot is flush with the inside of the PVC.
Now you will have to measure some but I think I cut this section about 3”. Since my rod I am using was broken, I cleaned up the break with some dikes and I was able to shove some of the rope inside the rod and then I taped it up as best as I could. You want to do this before you string the rope through the PVC and hang it.
Okay, so now we are going to hang this contraption.
Feed the rest of your rope through the PVC pipe and we will tie a loop on the tag end.
Take one of the teacup hooks and screw it into the wall. I used the broken section of rod to measure a distance down to my elbow. It takes a couple tries to get it right. Both of my hooks sit 82” from the ground and it seems as if it works for people of all heights.
you will then stretch the rope and tie another loop knot and hang it on the adjacent hook like so…again takes a couple tries to get it right.
You now have a working contraption as seen in the Gink and Gasoline video…Hopefully
